‘Obstacles’ Still Remain Ahead Of Digital Driving Licence Rollout

Earlier this year, the government confirmed that UK drivers will be given the option of using a digital driving licence.
It’s been mooted for a long time but in a bid to improve the ease of checking licences and for using licences as ID, the government has moved forward plans to this year.
However, there is some concern that ‘obstacles’ remain before drivers and fleets fully adopt digital driving licences, despite hope that it will make licence checks easier than ever before.
Digital driving licences will be stored in a new Gov.uk wallet under the plans, much like secure digital wallets are used for event tickets, credit cards and various personal information.
Physical driving licences will remain but with 16% of drivers polled opposing digital driving licences and an admission that just one-third of fleets regularly monitors their driver’s licences, it’s clear there are some concerns.
Routine licence checking is a key focus for fleets as we move towards the new age of digital driving licences (don’t worry, physical licences aren’t going anywhere just yet!).
