Are Rising Motoring Prosecutions A Road Safety Warning For Fleets?
Motoring prosecutions reached a 10-year high in 2025, according to new figures from the Ministry of Justice.
In total, there were 812,000 prosecutions for motoring offences across the year, which is a 5% rise on the previous year, posing the question of whether it’s becoming a serious issue for fleets to contend with.
Interestingly, speeding, vehicle insurance, registration and excise licence offences made up 65% of all offences.
For fleet operators, the figures are another reminder that road safety and driver compliance are more important than ever, particularly with more traffic than ever on the road.
One of the biggest increases was for failing to supply information about the identity of a driver when required, which rose by 19%, while prosecutions for dangerous driving increased by 34% year-on-year.
Of course, more prosecutions can mean several things for road safety and it’s weighing up how much of an impact that increased enforcement has had in the last 12 months, combined with busier roads and a perception of poorer driving standards.
For fleets, it places even greater importance on managing and mitigating risk, checking licences, and covering every base to keep drivers and vehicles safe.
That’s where Risk Monitor and Fleet Monitor can keep you and your fleet safe and compliant in 2026 and beyond, ensuring you have modern solutions to modern challenges.
