Most Fleets Have ‘No’ Road Safety Policy, According To New Study

A new study has found that 80% of fleets have no substantial road safety policy for their drivers.

That has prompted concern around the directives for drivers, particularly when risk management is a significant part of fleet management and road safety for fleets.

Additionally, almost two-thirds of fleets don’t use telematics or GPS systems to track and monitor drivers and vehicles, with 39% never being offered driver assessments as part of their onboarding and training with their fleet.

Road safety has been a hot topic in recent months, with the government keen to introduce policies to crack down on poor driver behaviour and driving offences.

The government is already set to introduce mandatory eye tests for those over 70, with more measures to be included in a new overarching safety strategy.

But there are now questions as to how much emphasis should be placed on fleets and drivers to have more clearly defined safety policies.

The safety strategy will also look to tackle drink driving and other driving offences such as driving without insurance or failing to wear a seatbelt.

With Driving Monitor, you can monitor your drivers and assess your risks at all times, including integrations with your telematics, and you can even mitigate risk by introducing Training Monitor driver interventions – find out more HERE.
