Record Rise In The Number Of Drivers Caught Speeding On UK Roads

The number of drivers caught speeding last year was a four-year high, with a significant rise in the overall numbers of speeding offences year-on-year.

New data from the DVLA have revealed that the number of drivers caught driving over the speed limit in 2025 (the latest year data has been revealed for) rose to 939,000, a 32% increase on the figures in 2022.

Safety campaigners have been keen to emphasise that it’s not simply a case of enforcement becoming stronger and the density of cameras (and automatic fines) increasing.

In fact, 61% of drivers have admitted that they’ve broken 30mph speed limits in the last 12 months, with half saying they’ve driven between 31-40mph in a 30 zone.

Speeding is linked to around 40% of serious collisions, which highlights the exact issue that a rise in exceeding the speed limit brings about.

That’s before you even factor in rising congestion, tighter schedules, and driver stress, which can result in people making poor decisions in split second moments.

From a compliance point of view, it can result in points, fines, potential disqualification and, in more serious cases, far worse outcomes.

The question is… how visible is speeding behaviour across your fleet right now?

The fleets that stay ahead are the ones identifying patterns early, spotting trends and ensuring they have a full overview of the situation in their fleet.

As ever, the best policy is to ensure you have visibility, clearer policies, and the ability to act on what’s actually happening on the road.
