The world’s most expensive number plate

When it comes to vehicles, there’s only so much you can do to make it ‘yours’.

Sure, you can modify the engine, upgrade the interior, and if you really want to, you can go for a ‘Pimp My Ride’ style revamp.

But one of the easiest ways to personalise your car and make it instantly identifiable is to get a personalised number plate.

Usually it’s a birthday present, a gift for a loved one, or a splurge on something that looks vaguely like your name.

Well, a new world record has just been set for a personalised plate…

With the Dubai-based plate ‘P 7’ fetching a cool £12 million at auction.

The figure beats the previous record set back in 2008 when the number plate ‘1’ sold for around £11.4 million.

I imagine it’s more of a status symbol than anything else, with its value being in its uniqueness, much like with classic art.

But I don’t think I could bring myself to part with that sort of cash… even if I could afford it!

How much would you be willing to pay for a number plate? Especially if money was no object…
