A Missing Forklift, A Police Chase, And One Big Question

For any fleet owner, keeping track of your vehicles is a given.

Knowing who’s driving which vehicle, what route they’re on, when they need servicing and when they’re due for replacement is all pretty essential.

But then again, you probably don’t expect a 12-year-old to commandeer one, do you?

That’s precisely what happened in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, last week.

A 12-year-old boy took a forklift on a tour of the city while police chased him for over an hour before they detained him…

It all kicked off just before 7pm on Saturday when the boy managed to open the door of the unlocked construction vehicle before finding the key hidden inside the cab.

Not long afterwards, he was spotted driving the machine towards the city centre by police, who began the pursuit.

At this point, the question simply has to be how he managed to get that far before anyone attempted to stop him, right?!

Along his 14-mile journey, the boy managed to hit 10 parked vehicles, take out several road signs and swerve across the road before being detained.

Luckily nobody was hurt, and he was taken into police custody, while you’d assume some big questions will be asked about just how it all unfolded.

Is a 12-year-old driving a forklift through town one of the stranger things you’ve heard about on the road? Let me know if you’ve got anything that tops it…
